A Charlie Brown Christmas
From:
Playing Mantis/Memory Lane
Included in set:
Charlie Brown, Linus Van Pelt, Pig Pen, Lucy Van Pelt, Sally Brown, Schroder

Wow. Wasn't it sometime last year when I commented that Memory Lane should make a series based on the cartoon classic "A Charlie Brown Christmas"? After the success of their "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" and "Good Ol' Charlie Brown" lines, I guess it comes as no surprise that Memory Lane, who has a penchant for Christmas cartoon special realted figures, would turn their attention this way.

This new line features six characters, each with a ton of fine accessories. Charlie Brown comes with his cap and both versions of his little tree. Linus Van Pelt likewise comes with with cap, a snowball pile and his blanket. Pig Pen is teamed up with the dirty snowman seen in the cartoon. Linus' sister Lucy Van Pelt also features a cap and comes with her psychiatrist booth. Charlie's sister Sally Brown has her letter (which surprisingly has her whole dictated letter to Santa written on it) and a mailbox. Finally, Schroder comes with his piano, which plays out the whole scene between himself and Lucy.

To go with this are two three-figure sets that collect all of the featured characters and even a Snoopy's Contest Winning Doghouse playhouse, which lights up with sounds when you press the blue ribbon. As with the previous sets, these figures may lack in poseability but they more than make up for it in terms of quality and how well they represent the original media. Charlie Brown fans should be on the look-out for this series.

While not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, I would have to wonder why Memory Lane didn't branch out with this series as much as they could have. There's no separate Snoopy figure outside of the playset, no Violet, Shermy, or Frida. They could have easily put together a playset based on the Ice Rink, Christmas Play or ending scene where everyone is singing, but.. oh, well.

I guess you can't fault Memory Lane as the series they already did is just fine as it is. Fans should run out and grab these while you can. I'm sure they won't be around too long.
